The weekend of 12th August, Beitske Visser was at the “Red Bull Ring”, in the superb setting of the Austrian mountains. On a track where she competed for the first time, the Dutch female driver from the Lotus team immediately showed all her talent by entering the top 5 in qualifying. Although her races have been frequently troubled by incidents, she has confirmed her progress by showing some solid performances during this 2012 Adac Formel Masters Championship.

In Austria, Beitske Visser was only on her fourth race in single-seaters but despite her still limited experience in the category, she is closing the gap with the best drivers. “The official free practice session certainly helped me to become familiar with this circuit, which I tried for the first time“, Beitske commented. “In these circumstances, I was pretty satisfied with setting the fifth fastest time in timed qualifying, i.e. the best performance in my team“.
Beitske kept her excellent pace in Race 1, despite a hard race start. “I lost several places in the first two laps and I slipped down to 12th place. Luckily I was pretty fast afterwards and I was able to climb up to 6th“.

A Very Nervous Pack!

Several of Beitske Visser’s opponents were very nervous in the pack during Race 2 and race directors were forced to inflict penalties on a number of drivers. “It is always a pity to lose places because of contacts. And when I was bumped into, my front aileron got damaged and my car was no longer easy to drive. Penalties inflicted enabled me to gain a few places, and I moved up to 6th in Race 2 final classification“.
In Race 3, the safety car intervened on the second lap after an accident. We were all very close in the pack and I found myself duelling with my two team mates Dalewski and Dontje. Unfortunately there a collision and there was nothing I could do to avoid it. I was unable to continue and had to retire“.
Having missed the Sachsenring meeting, Beitske is aware that her Adac Formel Masters podium chances have evaporated. “Now, I am focusing on a race at a time, trying to learn as much as possible and doing my best, and I am determined to achieve some excellent results in the last free races“. Next meeting will be held from 24th to 26th August at Lausitzring, in Germany.
