Varennes in the Spotlight of Karting News

Under the auspices of the FFSA, the new CIK-FIA South European Trophy will gather in Varennes sur Allier over 150 of the best international drivers from 15 countries for the qualifying round of the European KF2 & KF3 Championship. France will once again be among the protagonists on one of the most selective tracks thanks to the quality of its infrastructures and of its organisation.

From 29 April to 1 May, the FFSA, as the National Sporting Association, will be in charge of the organisation of one of the most important events in 2011, which will attract a very high number of participants. 68 drivers in KF2 and 87 in KF3 coming from 15 European countries will fight in Auvergne to conquer the new CIK-FIA South European Trophy. Italy, Spain, Germany and of course France will represent 85% of all drivers, but there will also be drivers from Switzerland, Sweden, Denmark, Austria, Greece, Portugal, Romania, Croatia, Serbia Montenegro and so on.

The Jean Brun circuit in Varennes sur Allier has one of the most prestigious rolls of honour of major karting events. For several years now, the ASK Varennes team, led by Jean-Jacques Pendanx, has regularly hosted the French Championships as well as several European Championships – five out of eight of the last editions – and a World Cup for KZ1 in 2008. Both technical and spectacular, the fast track layout of Varennes has some solid arguments to draw the attention of both specialists and fans on this type of events.

ASK Varennes has recently made some important investments to remain in the lead pack of karting circuits. This year several improvements have made to render infrastructures even more functional. And the Auvergne team knows perfectly well how to organise every single detail, with a quality of reception that has become somewhat legendary. The FFSA, represented by the president of the “Commission Nationale Karting” Jean-Pierre Deschamps, has definitely made the right decision by entrusting Varennes with the organisation of this very important international event. The Federation itself is deeply involved in the organisation of the meeting and will welcome drivers, people accompanying them and journalists under its motor home, the “place to be” of the paddock.

There is a lot at stake in this South European Trophy because in addition to the new title, drivers will fight for a place in the final, which will mean the qualification for the European Championship to be held in late July in Spain. 36 French drivers will be at the meeting, with strong potential to achieve excellent results for the best of them. In KF2, Victor Sendin (Tony Kart/Vortex) has the potential to show some good performances, just like Enzo Guibbert (FA Kart/Vortex), with drivers such as Victor Compère (FA Kart/Vortex) or Pascal Belmaaziz (DR/Parilla) in their wake. In parallel with car racing season in F4, Andréa Pizzitola (FA Kart/Vortex) will not come to Varennes for a walk-on part.

Competition is even more open in KF3. Forecasts favour Esteban Ocon (FA Kart/Vortex), as well as a few young talents such as Valentin Moineault and Paolo Besancenez (Sodi/Parilla), who won a final each at the last GPO on this same circuit. Dorian Boccolacci (Birel/BMB), Florian Latorre (Sodi/Parilla), Simon Tirman and Benjamin Gérard (Tony Kart/Vortex), and Etienne Mordret (Zanardi/Parilla) are some of the French drivers with the best qualities to make themselves noticed.
