Princely Crown for Sodi!

The Sodi chassis and SRT (Sodi Racing Team) showed an impressive performance in the harbour of Monaco. On a course that shares part of its track with the mythical Formula 1 circuit, Anthony Abbasse dominated the KZ2 final and crossed the finishing line with a gap of over 5 seconds over his nearest rivals. A few weeks after Pierre Gasly’s podium at the World Cup for KF3, Sodi achieved another important international victory at the 13th Monaco Kart Cup.

A victory in Monaco has always a special taste, especially when conquered with style. On the 1,080 meters of the Monaco circuit, the ST32 demonstrated to be the king. “As soon as we put the kart on the ground for the first free practice sessions, I felt totally at ease and set some excellent times“, Anthony Abbasse pointed out. “To tell the truth, Monaco is much more difficult than I expected. You need some driveability when you come out of a bend, a well-adjusted front axle to perfectly follow the chicanes with your chassis and a great deal of stability for the fast S’s of the swimming pool. When your side guard almost touches the asphalt, there is no room for mistakes, like in Formula 1. And on top of that, track conditions kept changing throughout the weekend. During the race, trajectories filled with rubber residues. Anyway, we remained very competitive from the beginning to the end“.

After taking as little risk as possible in timed qualifying to play his best cards on Sunday afternoon, Abbasse went to the attack in the pre-final. He overtook Bas Lammers, current European champion, and posted the fastest lap. A small collision with Norman Nato forced him to content with second place. In the final race, the Sodi karter quickly took control of the pack. From the bend of the Bureau de Tabac to Rascasse, his kart was irresistible. Lap after lap, he built an increasing gap over his nearest challenger and took the chequered flag 5”7 ahead of his rival! “Competition was tough, but the Sodi team and I faced the challenge with great determination“, Anthony added. “My thanks also go to Foti Power for its perfect tune-ups this weekend“. Among the innumerable victories for Sodi, nobody doubts that this success at the Monaco Kart Cup will have a place of honour in the golden book of the French constructor!

Sodi-SRT.jpgA few comments by Nicola De Cola, SODI RACING TEAM’s team manager

As far as I am concerned, I had never won in Monaco with my previous teams. So I was very pleased to witness this triumph by Anthony and the Sodi team at our return to the KZ2 category in Monaco. Our drivers were very satisfied with Sodi equipment that, once again, proved to be high-performance, despite the difficulties that mark this circuit, laid out at the bottom of the Rock of Monaco. We also had the potential to complete a double with Pierre Gasly in KF3. He won one of the two qualifying heats and was definitely one of the candidates to victory before he was involved in a collision. This weekend he was the only one who could have put Carlos Sainz in check“.
