Nyck’s Hat Trick

Nyck De Vries achieved an incredible result by gaining three victories in a row in KF3! Unbeaten through April, the Dutch kartman won on tracks as diverse as Castelletto in Italy, Genk in Belgium and Oschersleben in Germany. His speed and adaptation capacity, as well as those of his Zanardi-Parilla, made sparks fly. The championship started under the best auspices for this driver from Chiesa Corse Team.

The back of Nyck’s kart: this is the only thing that this young driver’s opponents have been able to see lately. Nyck De Vries is now in excellent shape and his list of victories is becoming longer and longer. Now that he is a bit more mature, he faces every race with a more relaxed attitude, and with the indispensable self-confidence that allows him to manage all race factors even better.

After a very Italian season debut, with at least five big events attended on the other side of the Alps, Nyck raced at a meeting in Genk (Belgium). “This same circuit will host the qualifying round of the European KF3 Championship, so I wanted to be there to get ready for a European race which is very important for the rest of the season”, Nyck announced.

There were many drivers from several countries and Nyck quickly proved to be the best in the “13-15 year old” KF3 category. “In Belgium, there are two different rounds, one on Saturday and one on Sunday, each of them with two races. That is, four chances to win”. Nyck almost got the big slam. “On the first day, I set the pole position in my group on a wet track, then I gained the two finals, with a lot of pressure behind me. In addition to that, we were able to collect technical data under different grip conditions, and it was really useful”.

The following day, the Chiesa Corse driver looked to be heading to a replay. He won the first race, but a little accident happened in the second. “I was pushed at the start and I fell to 7th. I piled on the pressure to recover ground, by I could not reach the leader, so I finished second”. Considering all four weekend races, Nyck was logically declared the winner.

Two weeks later, the young Dutch driver was at the start of the German Championship, which he had won nicely in 2008. “Once again it was an excellent weekend. I reached the pole position and then gained the two heats, the pre-final and the final. Before the final, we decided to improve again my kart adjustments and it was the right choice, because I won the race with over six seconds of advantage and best lap in race”.

Nyck De Vries has definitely been one of the most remarkable kartmen on the international scene, so far this season, with many successes and podiums gained throughout Europe. But this 2009 season is going to be long and hard-fought, with major European and word events soon to be held.
