Max Defourny Shows Again High Level of Performance

After two competitions at top level, Max Defourny showed again to be definitely among the top players in the KF-Junior class. The performances shown by this young karter from Luxembourg did not go unnoticed and are excellent omens with a view to the international events of the 2013 season. At the Winter Cup, Max was again on his way to a podium in the final when an electrical problem forced him to stop.

After the first round of the WSK Master Series, Max Defourny went back to Italy to compete in the Winter Cup (15-17 February). Over the years, quite a few excellent drivers who are now in car racing have shown their skills at this prestigious event. Held on the circuit of Lonato, this meeting is filled with difficulties that put drivers’ mental stamina heavily to the test. “With about 90 drivers at the start, the Winter Cup is an obstacle course!” Alain Boumal, Max’s team manager commented. “All the drivers have high hopes at the start of the new season, some of them have little experience, the weather is often unpredictable, there are frequent collisions and the circuit of Lonato is full of difficulties. All these elements make the job of drivers and their teams much more complicated. But despite these conditions, Max proved again to be among the best drivers. He was very fast and made no mistakes. This is really encouraging for the rest of the season“.

Indeed, he set stunning times and took a third place in the pre-final.
Motivated to succeed both at school as well as in sport in 2013, Max Defourny started the Winter Cup in the best possible way, with the fastest time in his group in timed practice. There were as many as five qualifying heats scheduled, but Max always secured his place in the lead pack, in addition to taking one victory. “Max has grown again in maturity, combativeness as well as in his technical approach towards the race“, Alain Boumal added. “Especially in the pre-final, he perfectly controlled his race and fought with determination for third place, which enabled him to start from the inside in the final. This is always an advantage! Our structure is far from being the largest in the paddock, Max is not supported by an army of technicians, but together we work effectively and meticulously“.
Max Defourny kept the momentum going in the decisive race to take third place. But just when he had succeeded in getting rid of the chasing pack, suddenly his engine started to lose power and then stopped with only six laps to go.

Podium Gone
“After the race incident I suffered at La Conca, this is the second time in a row that I lose the opportunity to climb onto the podium“, Max said. “This time, I had an electrical problem… It is so frustrating and I hope to break soon this run of bad luck. This was too bad, because my Kosmic chassis and my TM engines prepared by GKS were very competitive. I am already looking forward to my next competitions to turn these performances into results!“
