Aubry Well Armed for Success in 2013

An emerging talent in Minikart, a revelation in Minime/Cadet, a remarkable driver since his early races in KF3 at the end of the 2011 season, Gabriel Aubry did more than simply confirming in 2012 all the hopes placed in him and spearheaded the attack on all the circuits. After a very busy year with a lot of competitions and training sessions, Gabriel can be happy with his excellent results at international level and with his first national title of French KF3 Champion. The FFSA has renewed his confidence in him in the “Equipe de France Karting” team, while the Birel company has chosen him as its official driver. These are definitely very good results, before the first wheel turns of a most promising 2013 season for this driver from the Greater Paris area.

Gabriel Aubry has gained a truly international reputation during the many competitions of his intense 2012 season. He was known for his nice driving touch, but now he has built up a solid international experience by learning from the best specialists of the Junior class. During his many competitions and tests behind the wheel of his Birel/TM, this young 14-year old driver has shown a great deal of determination in his approach to competition while also sharpening his physical skills.

Although he could not be at the WSK Master Series after a Winter Cup that had started off on the right foot, but where he suffered a rib injury – a soft spot for karters – Gabi fought hard to be quickly back in the group of the leaders. Thanks to his mental strength, he improved his performances at mid-season and finally enjoyed the fruits of his efforts.

Already very fast at the Angerville and Ostricourt GPOs, Gabriel was particularly brilliant in England, at the final round of the European Championship, where he took a nice 8th place in Race 1 at the PF International, after a fabulous 18-place catch up with times faster than the leaders. For a major event such as the World Cup in Spain, he took another step forward by entering the world top 5 after the qualifying phases. He also fought for the second place, but some drivers’ questionable behaviour during the competition stopped his momentum.

I was really impressed by Gabi!” his mechanic and mentor Thomas Mich commented then. “He has always been very fast, with a very clean style, but now he is capable of fighting in the lead pack against the best drivers. At Zuera, he had the means to do something good at world level. Unfortunately the battle has not always been within the rules, and this is the least one can say. In any case, he took advantage of every opportunity to make progress in the way he handles races“.

After the French Championship, Gabriel showed some stunning performances at Essay, where he won the two GPO finals and took the lead of the standings before the last round. With great intelligence, he brilliantly managed the Laval meeting and his second place in Final 2 allowed him to take the well deserved reward of an important title, a national crown to end a very good season in beauty.

The 2013 programme promises to be equally exciting for Aubry as official Birel Motorsport driver in all major international races. Deeply involved in kart development since this fall, Gabi is taking his role in the Italian company very seriously and alternates with enthusiasm between his sport activity and set-up sessions for the Birel chassis as well the TM 2013 engine, while looking forward to doing battle in a race again.
