Another Title for KZ Reference Chassis!

CRG has always been one of the makes most appreciated by drivers in the 125cc gearbox categories. Indeed, almost 20% of all drivers in European KZ1 & KZ2 Championships were equipped with a chassis manufactured by the Italian make! In Wackersdorf, on 10-11-12 June, quantity was a synonym for quality since the colours of the Italian chassis were always visible in lead positions. At the end of a difficult race, Fabian Federer (CRG-TM) conquered the European KZ2 title, while Mirko Torsellini (CRG-Maxter) completed the podium by proving to be the fastest in the final race. In KZ1, Jonathan Thonon had great chances to triumph, but his momentum was stopped by a set of defective tyres. What a disappointment!

KZ1: Frustration for Thonon

The CRG-Maxter team and Jonathan Thonon left Germany with a great sense of frustration at the end of a European Championship they hoped they could win. “My victories in the WSK Euro Series at the start of the season had given me confidence and I was really determined to win another European title“, Jonathan said. “I was also the fastest in timed qualifying and I won a heat on Saturday. Although I was run into in another heat, I knew that the competitiveness of my CRG-Maxter could allow me to recover. After catching up several places in the pre-final, I was pushing hard to reach the leaders when a puncture crashed all my hopes. After careful analysis, we found out that our set of tyres was defective. At this level it is unacceptable“.
The CRG team did not conceal its disappointment. “It must be said that already the choice of a tortuous, narrow and even dangerous circuit for such an event was not the best solution. Several bumps hampered the race, including Arnaud Kozlinski’s, who set the best lap time in the final race anyway. What is more, we prepared the race with a certain type of tyres, the soft ones, and then when we got here we were informed that we would race with medium tyres”. And finally, these tyres did not even make it to the end of the race!” Drivers tried to do everything they could, such as Davide Forè (CRG-Maxter/Tec-Sav), who staged a fantastic recovery from 10th to 5th place in the final race.

KZ2: Title for Federer, Podium for Torsellini

In this category, drivers of different nationalities and teams achieved brilliant performances at the wheel of a CRG. Francesco Celenta conquered the pole position in timed qualifying, preceding another CRG, Fabian Federer’s. Luca Tilloca and Mirko Torsellini also entered the top 10. Torsellini won his five qualifying heats, but it was Federer who dealt the decisive blow at the best time during the final and conquered an extraordinary victory. “I never thought I could win this title. It’s fantastic! A great thank you to all my team“, the driver with CRG colours declared.
Though he regretted losing time at the start and letting Federer pass, Torsellini recovered brilliantly up to the third step of the podium. 5th and 6th respectively, Kristijan Habulin and Francesco Celenta confirmed the competitiveness of CRG in KZ2, just like Kevin Illgen (4th in the qualifying heats).
