Gomez starts with OK pole position in Valencia

85 drivers were present in Valencia for Qualifying Practice for the FIA Karting European Championship – OK on a dry track, with the sun raising the temperature to 20°. The participants entered the track progressively during the last three minutes of each session.

Session 1: Drummond – 53”256
Thibaut Ramaekers (KR/Iame) was fastest after the first lap, ahead of Zac Drummond (Parolin/TM) and Freddie Lloyd (LN/TM). Drummond led on the second lap in 53’256 with Anatoly Khavalkin (Parolin/TM) 2nd at 67 thousandths, then Sebastiano Pavan (Tony Kart/Vortex) 3rd at 89 thousandths and Mattheus Morgatto (Birel ART/TM) 4th at 98 thousandths. Louis Iglesias (CRG/Iame) finished 5th, Oleksandr Bondarev (KR/Iame) 9th and Ramaekers 10th. Jean Karras (Tony Kart/Vortex) was 25th and Andy Consani (Sodi/TM) 29th.

Session 2: Wherrell – 53”307
Dmitry Matveev (KR/Iame) was fastest on the 1st lap ahead of Miguel Costa (Parolin/TM). Lewis Wherrell (Exprit/TM) then set the fastest time of 53”307, followed by Vivek Kanthan (Parolin/TM). Joe Turney (KR/Iame) was 3rd, a tenth off the pace, followed by Ean Eyckmans (Birel ART/TM) in 4th and Costa in 5th. Matveev was 10th, Tom Dussol (CRG/Iame) 14th. Elliot Kaczynski (Tony Kart/TM) had no time.

Session 3: Gomez – 53”217
Markas Silkunas (CRG/Iame) was ahead of Davide Bottaro (CRG/Iame) on the first lap. Gabriel Gomez (CRG/Iame) took pole position on the second lap in 53’217. Silkunas was 2nd at 0.167”, Bottaro 3rd at 2 tenths, then Roland Kuklane (Tony Kart/TM) 4th ahead of Fionn Mclaughlin (KR/Iame). Thomas Quincé (Tony Kart/Vortex) was 14th ahead of Jimmy Hélias (KR/Iame), while Philippe Karras (LN/Iame) was 21st.
