OK-Junior Super Heats: Costoya and Schaufler dominate

Rainy and windy conditions on Saturday morning for the Prefinals of the first round of the Champions of the Future Euro Series in Valencia, providing an opportunity to discover the rain version of Maxxis tyres. Slicks made a bold return for Super Heat 2.

Super Heat 1: Costoya ahead of van Langendonck
Poleman Dries van Langendonck (Exprit/TM) got off to a good start, followed by Christian Costoya (Parolin/TM) and then Rocco Coronel (KR/Iame). Nikita Nikishov (KR/Iame) moved up three places to 4th, ahead of Filippo Sala (LN/TM). The first two had taken the lead. Costoya overtook van Langendonck and was already comfortably ahead on the fourth lap. The grip improved slightly towards the end of the race. Costoya accelerated and took the lead 0.888” ahead of van Langendonck. Threatened for a moment by Nikishov, Coronel secured 3rd position by 5 seconds, while Roman Kamyab (LN/TM) finished 4th at 2.5”, followed by Nikishov and Sala. Kit Belofsky (KR/Iame) had moved up 12 places to 7th before being demoted to 10th by a spoiler penalty.

Super Heat 2: Schaufler masters the conditions
Slicks were the norm for this race, even though the track was still damp. Niklas Schaufler (KR/Iame) started from the outside and negotiated the first corner without problems, which wasn’t the case for everyone else… Arjen Kräling (KR/Iame) was 2nd ahead of Iacopo Martinese (KR/Iame), Kenzo Craigie (KR/Iame) 4th and Thomas Pradier (KR/Iame) 5th. Louis Cochet (KR/Iame) did not start. Schaufler’s lead had already reached 3.4” by lap 4. Craigie then came back into 3rd place, passing Martinese and setting off in pursuit of Kräling. The manoeuvre was successful on lap 7. Schaufler won 3.5″ ahead of Craigie. Martinese took 3rd place ahead of Kräling and Pradier, who was an excellent 5th. Dean Hoogendoorn (KR/Iame) managed to climb back up to 6th place.
