Wet Qualifying at Cremona: Sala takes Junior pole position

Rain and a wet track accompanied Qualifying Practice for round 2 of the WSK Super Master Series at Cremona on Friday morning. Fortunately, the final Free Practice sessions had given the competitors a chance to get a feel for the conditions before they set out to attack the clock in temperatures of around 10°. The 81 OK-Junior drivers were logically divided into three successive sessions. The 6 minutes of each session were fully exploited, with times improving with each lap.

Session 1: Sala – 1’03”160
Filippo Sala (LN/TM) led from Joel Pohjola (Tony Kart/Vortex) on the second lap. Borys Lyzen (Sodi/TM) was 4th, while Mattéo Rivals (Sodi/TM) gradually got into the rhythm. Sala kept up his momentum at the top of the standings, finishing the last lap in 1’03”160, with a lead of 3.7 tenths over Pohjola. Sebastian Minns (LN/TM) was 3rd, a second behind, Bosco Arias (KR/Iame) 4th and Iacopo Martinese (KR/Iame) 5th. Lyzen finished 9th and Rivals 23rd.

Session 2: Van Langendonck – 1’03”181
Dries van Langendonck (Exprit/TM) was fastest on the second lap of the session ahead of Lev Krutogolov (Tony Kart/Iame) and Christian Costoya (Parolin/TM). Rocco Coronel (KR/Iame) then entered the top three ahead of Krutogolov and Roman Kamyab (LN/TM) . The fastest time went to van Langendonck in 1’03”181, with Costoya 8 thousandths behind him. Kamyab finished 3rd, 5 tenths behind, Krutogolov 4th and Coronel 5th. Théo Battisti (Sodi/TM) was 18th.

Session 3: Kräling – 1’03”921
Scott Lindblom (Tony Kart/Vortex) was leading Kit Belofsky (Sodi/TM) on the second lap. Belofsky increased his lead on lap 4, but Arjen Kräling (KR/Iame) finished 1st with a fifth lap time of 1’03”921, 78 thousandths ahead of Nikita Nikoshov (KR/Iame). Luke Kordner (Exprit/TM) was 3rd ahead of Belofsky and Ilia Berezkin (Intrepid/TM). Lindblom was 7th, Niklas Schaufler (KR/Iame) 12th with only three laps completed and Louis Cochet (KR/Iame) 18th.
