Schauffler and Domain win the OK-Junior Prefinals

The weather was fine but still cold in Lonato for the OK-Junior Prefinals of the first round of the WSK Super Master Series.

Prefinal A: Schaufler wins
Dean Hoogendoorn (KR/Iame) was out of the race even before the start. Iacopo Martinese (KR/Iame) took the lead ahead of Christian Costoya (Parolin/TM), Niklas Schaufler (KR/Iame) was 3rd ahead of Dries van Langendonck (Exprit/TM) and Filippo Sala (LN/TM). Louis Cochet (KR/Iame) failed to complete a lap, as did Iskender Zulfikari (KR/Iame) and Roman Kamyab (LN/TM). Schaufler regained the lead on the fourth lap from Martinese and Sala, followed by Costoya and van Langendonck. Costoya moved back up to 3rd place on lap 7, overtaking Sala, then 2nd ahead of Martinese who responded. Schaufler took the lead 2” ahead of van Langendonck. Augusttus Toniolo (KR/Iame) returned to the top five ahead of Daniel Kelleher (KR/Iame), who had moved up 10 places. Costoya had retired. Schaufler’s lead shrank considerably under the pressure of van Langendonck. Schaufler nevertheless took victory with a 0.461″ lead. Sala attacked Martinese on the final lap for 3rd place. Matéo Rivals (Sodi/TM) finished 24th after a number of retirements.

Prefinal B: Impressive win for Domain
Rocco Coronel (KR/Iame) got the better of Sebastian Lehtimaki (Tony Kart/Vortex) to finish the first lap in the lead, with Arjen Kräling (KR/Iame) having slipped into 2nd place. Aloïs Girardet (Energy/TM) did not finish the first lap. Henry Domain (Energy/TM) was 5th ahead of Bruno Gryc (Parolin/TM). On the fifth lap, Kräling was leading ahead of Lev Krutogolov (Tony Kart/Iame) and Domain. Joel Pohjola (Tony Kart/Vortex) was back in the top five ahead of Coronel. Domain continued to push hard and took P1 at the halfway stage. Lehtimaki attacked Kräling for 2nd position, but Krutogolov reacted and was back in P2. Ethan Lennon (LN/Iame) moved up to 5th ahead of Coronel. Domain flew to victory with the fastest lap and a 3″ lead over Lehtimaki, Kräling was 3rd, Krutogolov 4th and Lennon 5th. Théo Battisti (Sodi/TM) managed to overtake a few times at the end of the race to finish 22nd.
