OK-Junior: Schaufler wins duel with Langendonck

It was almost 10°C on a sunny Sunday afternoon in Lonato for the OK-Junior Final of the WSK Super Master Series.

Niklas Schaufler (KR/Iame) was closely followed by Dries van Langendonck (Exprit/TM), Iacopo Martinese (KR/Iame) was 3rd, while Filippo Sala (LN/TM) overtook Rocco Coronel (KR/Iame) for P4.

Scott Lindblom (Tony Kart/Vortex) was back in 6th while Henry Domain (Energy/TM) lost a few places. Van Langendonck took 1st place, followed by Martinese. Schaufler responded by moving up to 2nd. The only Frenchman to qualify, Louis Cochet (KR/Iame) had climbed seven places to 21st. The two frontrunners had distanced themselves from their pursuers, starting with Martinese who was 1.2″ back. Schaufler launched a long-range attack on lap 9 to regain the advantage over van Langendonck. Sala moved up to 3rd ahead of Martinese before dropping back to 5th. Coronel and Scott Marsh (Tony Kart/Vortex) retired simultaneously. Christian Costoya (Parolin/TM) moved up to 3rd for the final laps, but was too far from the leaders to challenge for victory. Schaufler controlled van Langendonck right up to the finish to take victory once again. Costoya took an incredible 3rd place at 2.3” after a nine-place climb. Martinese was 4th and Sala 5th ahead of Arjen Kräling (KR/Iame). Cochet finished 17th after making up 11 places despite a spoiler penalty.
