Van Langendonck recovers OK-Junior victory after Costoya’s penalty

The weather was more pleasant early on Sunday afternoon in Franciacorta, with temperatures of 11°C for the OK-Junior Final of the WSK Final Cup.

Dries Van Langendonck (Exprit/TM) held on to his pole position on the first lap of the Final, but Xiao Yu Sun (Tony Kart/Vortex) was not far behind in 2nd, followed by Christian Costoya (Parolin/TM), Bottaro, Filippo Sala (LN/TM) and Iacopo Martinese (KR/Iame). Costoya was back in 2nd and Bottaro 3rd, while Martinese in 4th was more than a second back. Costoya took P1 on the fifth lap, but Van Langendonck responded on the following lap. The battle allowed Martinese to join them, taking the pack behind him. Niklas Schaufler (KR/Iame) had made up 13 places to move into the top 10. The leading trio closed the gap. Costoya came back into the lead with two laps to go, ahead of a dozen or so determined rivals. Costoya won by 9 tenths and took the Championship in the process. Van Langendonck spared no effort to hold on to 2nd place against Sun. Costoya was then penalised 5” for overtaking under yellow flag conditions and found himself in 9th place. Van Langendonck was therefore declared the winner. Schaufler secured an incredible 2nd place (+21 places). Lewis Wherrell (Exprit/TM) completed the new podium ahead of Sala and Bottaro. Pesl was 6th. Thomas Quincé (Tony Kart/Vortex) finished an honourable 8th.
