KZ2 Final: Zanchi beats Bertuca to the finish

As the day drew to a close, the shadows on the South Garda Karting circuit grew as the sun disappeared behind the hills. It wasn’t long before the temperature dropped.

Matteo Zanchi (CRG/TM) got off to the best start ahead of Alex Maragliano (Sodi/TM) and Cristian Bertuca (Birel ART/TM). Markus Kajak (Birel ART/Modena) remained 4th ahead of Daniel Stell (KR/Iame) and Maksim Orlov (Parolin/TM). Bertuca was soon back in 2nd, 1.2 seconds behind the leader. Tom Leuillet (Tony Kart/Vortex) had moved up four places to 11th. Bertuca made up 1″ in the space of two laps to move into the direct wake of Zanchi. The Birel ART Racing driver took the lead on lap 5. Kajak was back in 4th ahead of Daniel Stell (KR/Iame) and Maksim Orlov (Parolin/TM). Maragliano was quick to overtake Zanchi to prevent Bertuca from escaping. Now in 4th place, Orlov was more than 2″ back and had the fastest time. He had overtaken David Trefilov (Maranello/TM) and Maximilian Paul (DR/Modena). The group of three leading drivers remained compact. Orlov maintained a high pace in an attempt to catch up with them. Zanchi had taken P2 from Marigliano. Zanchi then attacked Bertuca to take the lead with three laps to go. Trefilov had overtaken Orlov for 4th place. Bertuca tried everything he could on the final lap, but Zanchi resisted and won by 0.147″. Trefilov finished 4th behind Maragliano with a one-place penalty (bad maneuver) and Paul 5th.
