Victory for Apicella in the OK-N Prefinal

The temperature had risen to 21 degrees at the circuit of Franciacorta for the OK-N Prefinal at the “Road to the First OK-N World Cup” support race to the Mondokart.com FIA Karting World Championship.

Poleman Antonio Apicella (KR/IAME) made an excellent start to lead ahead of Francesco Marenghi (Parolin/TM) and Federico Albanese (Italcorse/TM) who were fighting for 2nd, Albanese having moved up from 7th. Many karts went off on the first lap including Alex Machado (TB Kart/TM) who was catapulted into the path of Federico Rossi (Tony Kart/TM).

Lamberto Ferrari (Formula K/TM) passed Nicolas Tomasella (Parolin/TM) for 4th while Maxime Geley (Sodi/TM) was the fastest man on the track in 6th, before also passing Tomasella. Marenghi lost 3rd to Ferrari and Geley before Geley also passed Ferrari, the Frenchman running 2 tenths per lap faster.

Tomasella was struggling and dropped back several places while Geley continued to gain on the leader. Marenghi took his revenge by regaining 3rd. Albanese lost several places from 4th as Eric Cristian Enache (DR/Modena) and Gianmarco Cortopassi (Maranello/TM) moved into the top six.

Apicella found more speed to stay ahead of Geley to add another win to his two heats yesterday, with Marenghi 3rd, Enache 4th, Edoardo Rovera (Parolin/TM) 5th and Ferrari 6th. Edoardo Leo (KR/TM) had made up 13 places to 7th.

Provisional results pending publication of the final rankings.
