Van Langendonck wins a majestic Junior World Championship

The OK-J drivers took the start of the Mondokart.com FIA Karting World Championship in 27 degree heat with Christian Costoya (Parolin/TM) and Filippo Sala (LN/TM) on the front row ahead of Dries Van Langendonck (Exprit/TM) and Taym Saleh (KR/IAME).

Costoya retained the lead and Van Langendonck took 2nd from Sala, then on lap 2 Van Langendonck took control, where was to stay for the rest of the race.

Lewis Wherrell (Exprit/TM) and Thibaut Ramaekers (KR/IAME) went off at Turn 3 and Noah Wolfe (Birel ART/TM) also ended up at the back of the field.

Scott Lindblom made an audacious move into 4th ahead of David Cosma Cristofor (KR/IAME) and Stepan Antonov, then Lindblom gained another place to 3rd from Sala. Cosma Cristofor was not intimidated and took back 5th, then 4th ahead of Sala. Saleh and Lewis Francis (KR/IAME) came together and both retired.

In mid-race Van Langendonck was ahead by just over a second and he continued to pull away from Costoya, eventually taking a historic World Championship for Belgium by 2.1 seconds. Lindblom finished 3rd ahead of Cosma Cristofor, Antonov and Augustus Toniolo (KR/IAME).

European Champion Oleksandr Bondarev finished 15th (+10pl).

French drivers Andy Consani (Parolin/TM) came home 10th (+10pl) and Thomas Quince 30th (+5pl).
