Franciacorta: Wherrell on Junior pole in the Champions of the Future Euro Series

It was partly cloudy at Franciacorta on Thursday morning for the Junior Qualifying Practice at the Champions of the Future Euro Series. The temperature was around 20°C in the morning. The 128 drivers on Vega tyres were divided into five groups.

Group 1: Ramaekers – 48”867
Thibaut Ramaekers (KR/Iame) was fastest in 48’867 on his second run. He was 16 thousandths quicker than Kirill Ditziev (Tony Kart/Vortex) and 27 thousandths quicker than Arjen Kräling (KR/Iame). Scott Marsh (Tony Kart/Vortex) was 4th at 5 hundredths and Davide Bottaro (Tony Kart/Vortex) 5th at 1 tenth. Taym Saleh (KR/Iame) was 7th, Oleksandr Bondarev (KR/Iame) 10th ahead of Niklas Schaufler (KR/Iame).

Group 2: Martinese – 48”688
Iacopo Martinese (KR/Iame) set the fastest time of 48’688 and took provisional pole ahead of Henry Domain (Energy/TM), 74 thousandths off the pace. Elia Weiss (Redspeed/TM) took 3rd place ) 0.166” ahead of Jarrett Clark (Sodi/TM) and Andy Consani (Parolin/TM). Dries van Langendonck (Exprit/TM) was 6th, Zac Drummond (Parolin/TM) 9th. 13th place for Jean-Paul Karras (Exprit/Vortex), with Maël Le Marchand (Kosmic/Vortex) finishing 20th.

Group 3: Wherrell – 48”649
Louis Cochet (Sodi/TM) was in the lead on the first lap ahead of Lewis Wherrell (Exprit/TM) and Christopher Feghali (KR/Iame). Wherrell then regained the lead and improved on the pole on the third lap with a time of 48”649. Augustus Toniolo (KR/Iame) followed at 0.166”, then Markas Silkunas (Tony Kart/TM) 3rd at 0.189. Cochet finished 4th at 0.274” ahead of Mike Parhiala (Gillard/TM).

Scott Kin Lindblom (Tony Kart/Vortex) was 8th ahead of Stepan Antonov (KR/Iame). Philippe Karras (Exprit/Vortex) finished 17th, Thomas Quincé (Tony Kart/Vortex) 19th, Walter Schulz (KR/Iame) 21st and Mattéo Dauvergne (KR/Iame) 22nd.

Group 4: Costoya – 48”724
Elliot Kaczynski (Tony Kart/Vortex) led on the second lap ahead of Christian Costoya (Parolin/TM). Costoya finished 1st with a third lap time of 48”724, 35 thousandths ahead of Kaczynski. Noah Monteiro (KR/Iame) was 3rd, 9 thousandths behind, Sebastian Lehtimäki (Parolin/TM) 4th, 1 tenth behind, and Felipe Reijs (KR/Iame) 5th. Rocco Coronel (Redspeed/TM) finished in the top 10 ahead of Tiziano Monza (Parolin/TM). Aloïs Girardet (CRG/TM) was 17th.

Group 5: Illife – 48”813
Marius Barry-Berg (KR/Iame) was leading on the second lap, but Jack Iliffe (Parolin/TM) set the fastest time of 48”813 on his third lap. Borys Lyzen (KR/Iame) followed at 59 thousandths, then David Cosma Cristofor (KR/Iame) 3rd at one tenth. Sebastian Minns (KR/Iame) finished 4th, 2 tenths behind Jensen Burnett (LN/TM) and Alp Hassan Aksoy (Tony Kart/Vortex). Barry-Berg was 7th ahead of Jindrich Pesl (Intrepid/TM) and Alfie Slater (LN/TM), with Matias Orjuela (Birel ART/TM) completing the top 10.
