Academy: Woda wins the Final ahead of Billard

A few clouds cast a small shadow over the Cremona circuit for the decisive Final of the Academy Trophy. The thermometer reached 30° and 21 laps were on the programme.

Wojciech Woda (POL) took the lead ahead of Hugo Marti (ESP) and Markas Silkunas (LTU). Santino Panetta (ARG) was back in 4th and Lisa Billard (FRA) 5th. Woda held off Marti, who took 1st place on the third lap. Panetta was 3rd and Billard 4th ahead of Silkunas and Coronel. Arthur Broughan (NZL) was back in 7th ahead of Cristian Tonalini (ITA). Marius Barry-Berg (NOR) retired. Billard soon moved up to 3rd place, very close to the two frontrunners Marti and Woda. The Pole regained the lead ahead of Marti, Silkunas took 3rd place ahead of Billard, then Coronel 5th ahead of Panetta. At the halfway point, Billard took 2nd place behind Woda, Silkunas was 3rd and Broughan 4th ahead of Marti. Billard was two tenths behind Woda, 2″ ahead of Silkunas. Marti was up against Coronel for 6th place. The Dutchman made contact with Karel Staut (CHE) and dropped to 8th. Billard increased the pace as the final laps approached, but Woda did better than resist. He won the Final 0.223″ ahead of the French driver who had climbed five places. Silkunas finished 3rd, Broughan 4th and Romeo Haagh (DNK) 5th ahead of Marti, the virtual winner of the Trophy.
