Academy: Broughan and Woda win the final heats at Cremona

The weather was superb on Sunday morning for the last two Qualifying Heats of the FIA Karting Academy Trophy at Cremona, with sunshine and temperatures already reaching 25°C.

Heat C-D: Broughan at last
Arthur Broughan (NZL) got off to a good start ahead of Benett Gaspar (HUN) and Romeo Haagh (DNK). Harry Bartle (GBR) then lost time when he tried to attack from the outside and fell to 14th, while Gaspar dropped back to 10th. Cristian Tonalini (ITA) moved into the lead on lap 3, with Vasileios Apostolidis (GRC) moving up to 3rd. Broughan immediately retook P1 ahead of Apostolidis. Tonalini was back in 2nd, followed by Haagh and Apostolidis. Aleksander Uusneem (EST) was 5th ahead of Radel Vavra (CZE). Klara Kowalczyk (POL) then moved up nine places to 6th. Boughan took 0.460” ahead of Haagh, then Tonalini 3rd, Apostolidis 4th and Uusneem 5th.

Heat A-B: winning comeback for Barry-Berg
Hugo Marti (ESP) took the lead from Wojciech Woda (POL) on the first lap, with Rocco Coronel (NLD) 3rd ahead of Markas Silkunas (LTU) who quickly lost places to Santino Panetta (ARG). Coronel was 2nd ahead of Panetta and Woda. 9th after the start, Lisa Billard (FRA) moved up to 7th behind Marius Barry-Berg (NOR), but ahead of Max Walton (AUS). Marti led by 4.5 tenths at the halfway stage from Woda, Coronel, Barry-Berg and Panetta. Billard was 6th while Coronel had dropped back to 5th. Barry-Berg, who set the fastest time, became a threat to Woda while Marti was 4th. Barry-Berg crossed the line first, 4 tenths ahead of Woda. However, he suffered a 5″ penalty, as did Walton, for causing a collision, and ended up 9th. Woda was therefore declared the winner ahead of Panetta, Marti 3rd, Coronel 4th and Billard 5th.

Woda remained leader of the intermediate classification ahead of Marti, Silkunas 3rd, Tonalini 4th, Panetta 5th, Coronel 6th and Billard 7th. Broughan was 9th, Apostolidis 15th, Walton 17th and Barry-Berg 26th.
