Junior Max: Dussol wins on the wire

Alberto Kiko Fracassi (Tony Kart/Rotax) and Kasper Schormans (Sodi/Rotax) shared the front row of the RMCIT Junior Max Final at Le Mans ahead of Armand Hamilton (Tony Kart/Rotax) and Tom Dussol (CRG/Rotax), then Thomas Pradier (CRG/Rotax) and Philippe Armand Karras (Kosmic/Rotax) on the third row. Fracassi, Schormans and Hamilton all retained their starting positions. An incident delayed a number of drivers in the second half of the field. Julian Kovacevic (LN/Rotax) was 4th ahead of Dussol and Pradier. Luka Scelles (Sodi/Rotax) was 9th. Hamilton put the pressure on Schormans for 2nd place, while Fracassi had a small advantage of 4 tenths. Hamilton overtook Schormans on lap 4. Dussol had taken over P4 and set the fastest time of the day. The battle was heating up in the top five. Schormans was back in 2nd place ahead of Hamilton. Fracassi and Schormans got away while the battle was intense in the group of three in the midst of a battle. Matthéo Dauvergne (EOS/Rotax) had moved up 20 places to 14th, while Vivien Guyonnet (Redspeed/Rotax) had made up 15 places to 13th behind Pradier. Hamilton lost ground in 5th place ahead of Scelles. Leader Fracassi was feeling increasing pressure from Schormans towards the end of the race. 3rd-placed Dussol followed 2″ further back, within reach of Kovacevic. Schormans grabbed P1 on the penultimate lap as soon as Fracassi didn’t close the door enough. Busy with their battle, the two didn’t watch their backs. Dussol came in like a rocket and won the race by 0.682″ ahead of Schormans and Fracassi. Kovacevic paid the price for this final battle and crashed out in 17th place. Hamilton secured 4th place ahead of Scelles. Dauvergne finished 7th (up 27 places), Guyonnet 9th (up 19 places) ahead of Hamza Al Fayaz (Tony Kart/Rotax) up 20 places.
