After Misano, Hiyu Yamakoshi still in the top five in F4

Six weeks after the Spa Francorchamps event in Belgium, the FFSA Academy’s F4 drivers made their second trip outside France, to the Misano circuit in Italy. The FIA-certified French F4 Championship was the curtain-raiser to the prestigious GT World Challenge.

Hiyu Yamakoshi was hoping to continue the upward trajectory he had established since the start of the season. Unfortunately for the Japanese driver, his meeting began with a failed Qualifying session. In the first four races, Hiyu had shown himself to be excellent in this exercise with four top five finishes, including a 3rd place and even a front row start in the street circuit of Pau.

Of course, with three starts from 16th place, the young Japanese motorsport hopeful knew that it would be difficult to increase his points tally in the provisional Championship standings. What’s more, a race incident relegated Hiyu Yamakoshi to the back of the pack in the very first laps. He eventually managed to finish 17th, but with the regret of not having been able to move up the order as he had hoped.

Fortunately, in Race 2, he came back from 16th to 12th place after a great attacking run. It was to be his only ray of sunshine of the weekend, as his Race 3 ended in a collision. With two races to go in the French F4 Championship, Hiyu Yamakoshi nevertheless retained his provisional 5th place. A podium finish remains the goal for the 16-year-old Japanese driver, who intends to give it his all to end his season on a high note and show off the extent of his talent to his partners.
