Sarno: KZ2 Super Heats for Orlov and Slater

The sun was already shining brightly in Sarno on Sunday morning, with temperatures in excess of 30°C by 9.00am for the Super Heats of the FIA Karting European Championship – KZ2.

Super Heat A: clear victory for Orlov
Cristian Bertuca (Birel ART/TM) and Maksim Orlov (Parolin/TM) got off to excellent starts. Daniel Vasile (Birel ART/TM) had moved up two places to 3rd ahead of Tomass Stolcermanis (Energy/TM) and Genis Civico (Parolin/TM), then Kean Nakamura-Berta (KR/Iame). Orlov attacked Bertuca at the start of the third lap to take the lead with Vasile in his wake. Alex Powell (KR/Iame) had moved up three places to 8th behind Yevan David (Sodi/TM). Orlov took the lead with a series of fastest laps, Stolcermanis moved up to 3rd ahead of Bertuca, Powell was back in 5th, passing Nakamura-Berta. Stolcermanis set the fastest lap and put the pressure on Vasile, who put up strong resistance. Bertuca took advantage of the situation to sneak into 3rd place ahead of Stolcermanis. Orlov took the win with a considerable lead of 4” over Vasile. Vincent Wanègue (Sodi/TM) finished 25th.

SSuper Heat B: Slater consolidates his lead
Freddie Slater (Birel ART/TM) maintained his lead at the start over Maxim Rehm (Birel ART/TM) and Paavo Tonteri (CRG/TM). Mattéo Spirgel (Sodi/TM) jumped up to 4th place ahead of Tim Gerhards (Sodi/TM) and Jean Nomblot (Sodi/TM). Artem Severiukhin (Parolin/TM) crashed out in 17th position. Tonteri quickly passed P2 ahead of Rehm. Spirgel showed great speed ahead of Nomblot in 5th place. Gerhards joined the list of retirements along with Alessio Piccini (Birel ART/TM) and Spirgel on the seventh lap following a mechanical problem. Tonteri was 2nd, 6 tenths behind Slater, with Rehm following at 4 tenths and Nomblot 4th by more than a second. Thomas Imbourg (Sodi/TM) retired with a puncture. Slater was 1.1″ ahead of Tonteri, who was hot on Rehm’s heels at the line. 4th place for Nomblot ahead of Maximilian Paul (DR/Modena). Gabin Leuillet (Birel ART/TM) was 9th (up 7 places), Tim Locati (Sodi/TM) 18th (up 7 places).
