Costoya takes OK-Junior pole at Rødby

Qualifying Practice started early on Friday afternoon at Rødby for the third round of the FIA Karting European Junior Championship, attended by 72 drivers. The sky was overcast, but the track was dry and the temperature was over 20°C.

Session 1: Dzitiev – 51”347
Elliot Kaczynski (Tony Kart/Vortex) was fastest on lap 2 ahead of Augustus Toniolo (KR/Iame) and Andy Consani (Parolin/TM). Kirill Dzitiev (Tony Kart/Vortex) took 1st place on lap 3 and finished in 51’347 on lap 4. Oleksandr Bondarev (KR/Iame) followed by 9 hundredths, Iacopo Martinese (KR/Iame) was 3rd at 0.127” ahead of Oliver Kinmark (Tony Kart/Vortex) and Kaczynski, while Consani was 7th. Maël Le Marchand (Kosmic/Vortex) had to make do with 22nd place.

Session 2: Schaufler – 51”407
Niklas Schaufler (KR/Iame) ended the second lap in the lead over Stepan Antonov and Lewis Wherrell (Exprit/TM) and his time of 51”407 was not bettered. Zac Drummond (Parolin/TM) was 2nd at 48 thousandths, with Antonov 3rd at 64 thousandths. Meryl Peldes (Birel ART/TM) was 4th at 0.142”, Sebastien Kawpeng (KR/Iame) was 5th and Wherrell 6th. Louis Cochet (Sodi/TM) was 9th, more than two tenths off the pace.

Session 3: Costoya – 51”263
Christian Costoya (Parolin/TM) was ahead of Dries van Langendonck (Exprit/TM) on the second lap. Costoya took pole position on lap 3 in 51”263, followed 33 thousandths behind by van Langendonck. Vivek Kanthan (Parolin/TM) finished 3rd, more than 2 tenths behind, Gerasim Skulanov (Birel ART/TM) 4th and Thibaut Ramaekers (KR/Iame) 5th.
