OK-Junior Super Heats for Parolin with Kanthan and Drummond

Saturday morning saw clear skies over Rødby for the Super Heats of the Champions of the Future Euro Series. The air temperature started at 15°C and the wind remained moderate.

Super Heat 1: Kanthan continues his winning streak
Vivek Kanthan (Parolin/TM) remained in the lead at the start ahead of Iacopo Martinese (KR/Iame), while Oleksandr Bondarev (KR/Iame) battled with Scott Lindblom (Tony Kart/Vortex) for 3rd place. Jack Illife (Parolin/TM) in 5th and Lewis Wherrell (Exprit/TM) in 6th were also in contention. Wherrell moved up to 5th, but Andy Consani (Parolin/TM) quickly replaced him. Kanthan remained under threat from Martinese, Lindblom was 9 thousandths behind and Bondarev was back with the leading trio. Iliffe, 5th, followed 1.9″ further back ahead of Wherrell and Filipppo Sala (Sodi/TM). Consani was 9th. Lindblom took the lead on lap 8, but Kanthan hit back. Martinese led the chasing pack 7 tenths further back. Lindblom battled with Martinese for 2nd place, which was good news for Kanthan. The young American won by 4.6″, Wherrell was 2nd and Bondarev 3rd after a fierce battle in the final laps. Iliffe took 4th place ahead of Martinese and Lindblom. Consani finished 7th.

Super Heat 2: Drummond just misses out
There was a good start from leader Zac Drummond (Parolin/TM), Alfie Slater (LN/TM) was attacked by Matias Orjuela (Birel ART/TM), but Oliver Kinmark (Tony Kart/Vortex) was 2nd on the first lap ahead of Christian Costoya (Parolin/TM), who didn’t stop there. Murilo Da Rocha (Energy/TM) was 4th followed by Stepan Antonov (KR/Iame) and Thibaut Ramaekers (KR/Iame) was 6th with the fastest time. In the lead, Drummond had a 2″ advantage over his team-mate Costoya. On lap 5, Antonov was 3rd ahead of Ramaekers. Dries van Langendonck (Exprit/TM) returned to Da Rocha’s wake in 6th place and passed him on lap 6. Van Langendonck overtook Antonov for 4th place. After a difficult start to the race, Louis Cochet (Sodi/TM) was back to 13th. Drummond was surprisingly caught by Costoya on the 11th lap. They clashed on the penultimate lap and Ramaekers took advantage to take 2nd place behind Drummond. The finish was unexpectedly close. Drummond won by the narrowest of margins, 35 thousandths, from Costoya. Ramaekers finished 3rd, Da Rocha 4th and Antonov 5th ahead of van Langendonck and Slater.

Provisional results pending publication of the final rankings.
