OK-Junior Super Heats: Bondarev and Costoya

With a dry track, blue sky and sun, 22°, conditions were perfect on Sunday morning for the Super Heats of the FIA Karting European Championship – Junior in Trinec.

Super Heat A: Bondarev narrowly ahead of Drummond

Oleksandr Bondarev (KR/Iame) got off to the best start, with Dries van Langendonck (Exprit/TM) five tenths behind, followed by Zac Drummond (Parolin/TM). Tiziano Monza (Parolin/TM) was 4th ahead of Jack Iliffe (Parolin/TM). Drummond quickly attacked van Langendonck for 2nd place while Kian Fardin (KR/Iame) took 5th place ahead of Iliffe and Scott Kin Lindblom (Tony Kart/Vortex). Bondarev was controlling the Drummond threat, with both drivers battling it out with fastest laps. Fardin was 4th, Iliffe 5th ahead of Monza. Kit Belofsky (Birel ART/TM) had made up three places to 9th. Fardin continued his ascent by passing van Langendonck for 3rd place, 2” behind Drummond. From the ninth lap onwards, Drummond made significant progress towards the leader. Louis Cochet (Sodi/TM) was targeted by a mechanical flag. Bondarev managed the last few laps perfectly and took the lead 2 tenths ahead of Drummond, who was the fastest driver. Fardin finished 3rd, van Langendonck 4th and Iliffe 5th ahead of Monza. David Cosma Cristofor (KR/Iame) was back in the top 10 with six places gained.

Super Heat B: Costoya wins after Wherrell penalty

Thibaut Ramaekers (KR/Iame) managed to regain his position after a slow start. Lewis Wherrell (Exprit/TM) kept the advantage at the start with Christian Costoya (Parolin/TM) in his wheels trying to attack him. Ramaekers was 3rd ahead of Maria Germano Neto (Tony Kart/Vortex) who was defending herself against Iacopo Martinese (KR/Iame). Wherrell was placed under investigation due to his start, but was leading with a growing lead over Costoya. Andy Consani (Parolin/TM) was back in 12th place, followed by Matias Orjuela (Birel ART/TM). After si laps, Wherrell was 1” ahead of Costoya. The positions did not change much after that because of the increasing gaps in the top 10. Wherrell crossed the finish line first 1,9″ ahead of Costoya, but received a 3″ penalty for going partially out of the corridor at the start and ended up in second place.. Ramaekers was 3rd at 3,6″. Nice 4th place for Neto ahead of Gabriel Koenigkan (CRG/TM). Elliot Kaczinski (Tony Kart/Vortex) finished 6th ahead of Ethan Lennon (Exprit/TM) and Martinese.
