Academy Final: Barry-Berg wins after a few twists and turns

Marius Barry-Berg (NOR) and Hugo Marti (ESP) were on the first row of the Final of the first round of the 2023 FIA Karting Academy Trophy in Trinec. Max Walton (AUS) and Wojciech Woda (POL) were on the second row ahead of Klara Kowalczyk (POL) and Arthur Broughan (NZL). Low and heavy clouds were gradually approaching the Steel Ring. It is worth noting that all the participants were using the same tyres from Friday.

Barry-Berg managed to get away and distanced Walton by 7 tenths on the first lap, Marti was 3rd, Kowalczyk 4th and Sebastian Garzon (COL) 5th. Rocco Coronel (NLD) had lost 16 places. It was a difficult start for Lisa Billard (FRA), 12th with three positions lost. Broughan was trying to recover the time lost at the start. Barry-Berg’s lead decreased with each lap against Walton. Billard made up ground on Broughtan and reached 8th position after eight laps. Walton attacked the leader who retaliated once. Walton took the lead shortly before the halfway point at the expense of Barry-Berg. The rain then made a timid appearance. Broughan was 15th, Garzon 10th and Billard 6th. Barry-Berg took over the lead from Marti and Walton. Billard was back in the top five. She reached 4th place while Kowalczyk dropped back to 6th. The rain did not seem to be falling and the track gradually regained its grip. Ryutaro Sakai (JPN) put more pressure on Billard for 4th place. Barry-Berg won 5 tenths ahead of Marti, Walton was 3rd. Billard secured 4th position (+5 pl) against Sakai.
