Trinec: Wherrell on pole position for OK-Junior

In the end, 77 OK-Junior drivers took to the track in Trinec out of the 95 entered for the Qualifying Practice of the European Championship #2. The weather was grey as expected, but the track dried out in the morning as the thermometer gradually rose to 16°. Most drivers waited until the last three minutes or less to leave the parc ferme.

Session 1: van Langendonck – 52’954
The second lap saw Dries van Langendonck (Exprit/TM) on 53’072 ahead of David Cosma Cristofor (KR/Iame). Van Langendonck improved to 52’954 on his third lap, 26 thousandths ahead of Tobias Szecsenyi (Exprit/TM). Maria Gerrmano Nieto (Tony Kart/Vortex) was 3rd at 48 thousandths and Scott Kin Lindblom (Tony Kart/Vortex) 4th, a hundredth further back. Ethan Lennon (Exprit/TM) was 5th, a tenth off the fastest time.

Session 2: Wherrell – 52”848
On the second lap Lewis Wherrell (Exprit/TM) was the fastest, ahead of Thibaut Ramaekers (KR/Iame) and Christian Costoya (Parolin/TM). Wherrell improved on the third lap with a time of 52”848, a tenth faster than Ramaekers, Costoya remaining 3rd at 0.189”. Tiziano Monza (Parolin/TM) was 4th, four tenths behind and Salim Hanna (LN/Vortex) 5th. Louis Cochet (Sodi/TM) finished 17th.

Session 3: Bondarev – 53”117
Oleksandr Bondarev was the fastest on the second lap, setting the top time of 53’117. The third lap saw Zac Drummond (Parolin/TM) close in to 11 thousandths with Jack Iliffe (Parolin/TM) a hundredth behind. Elliot Kaczinski finished 4th by 56 thousandths from Bondarev, then Matias Orjuela 5th at 68 thousandths. The performances were closer than in the other series, but also slower.
