A promising first F4 podium for Hiyu Yamakoshi

After already putting in some very good performances during the opening round of the FIA-certified 2023 French F4 Championship on the Nogaro circuit in April, the Japanese driver Hiyu Yamakoshi took advantage of the second round organised on the prestigious Magny-Cours circuit to increase his power. Still excellent during the Qualifying session, he was able to raise his standard to achieve some good races, especially in the third when he got on the podium.

Hiyu Yamakoshi continues to make his mark on the French Championship. It is never easy for a rider from the Asian continent to find himself immersed in a European competition, but Hiyu is showing great determination. He knows that his results will be scrutinised and analysed, which is why he gives 100% as soon as he sits in the cockpit of his single-seater and closes the visor of his helmet.

Hiyu suffered a problem in the only practice session prior to Qualifying at Magny-Cours, which deprived him of valuable laps to familiarise himself with the track that hosted Formula One from 1991 to 2008. Despite this setback, his two fastest laps were converted into 5th on the grid for Race 1 and 4th for Race 3.

Despite a high pace in Race 1, Hiyu Yamakoshi was never in a position to gain places and had to secure his starting position: 5th. In the FFSA Academy Championship, the grid for Race 2 is defined in reverse order of the Qualifying top 10. Hiyu started 6th and had a difficult end to the race, unable to do better than 8th in a very nervous field.

In Race 3, on the other hand, the Japanese hopeful was one of the fastest on the track and his clear run allowed him to move up to 3rd position. “Magny-Cours will remain a positive experience,” Hiyu said, “Six races have already taken place and I have managed to score points each time. This is motivating for the rest of the season. I hope to be back on the podium as soon as possible.
