Favourites Gomez and Nakamura-Berta win the OK Super Heats

The weather was grey with wind and a possibility of rain on Saturday morning in Trinec for the Super Heats of the second round of the Champions of the Future Euro Series.

Super Heat 1: Gomez wins with authority
Alex Powell (KR/Iame) took the lead over Gabriel Gomez (CRG/Iame) on the first lap, with Sebastiano Pavan (Tony Kart/Vortex) sneaking in to 2nd. In 4th place, Jakub Kamenik (Tony Kart/TM) was soon passed by Nathan Tye (Sodi/TM) and Rene Lammers (Parolin/TM). Gomez was back in 2nd place after a successful attack on Pavan. Meanwhile, Powell had escaped by more than a second. Jimmy Hélias (Tony Kart/Vortex) made an excellent start to the race, gaining 12 places to 17th. Gomez quickly reduced Powell’s lead. He joined him on the 7th of the 16 laps and Gomez took the lead in the process thanks to his greater speed. Tye also came back on Powell with Lammers on his heels. Guillaume Bouzar (Tony Kart/Vortex) managed to pass Kamenic to come back to 6th. The battle was heating up between Powell, Lammers and Tye for 2nd place. In the lead, Gomez had pushed his advantage to more than 1,4”. Powell had to defend his 2nd place, but Lammers managed to attack him on lap 14 thanks to a fantastic braking manoeuvre. Gomez won 1,2” in front of Lammers, who set the fastest time, Powell 3rd against Tye, Pavan 5th 1,6” further. Bouzar secured a good 6th place, Hélias finished 20rd.

Super Heat 2: Impeccable victory for Nakamura-Berta
Tereza Babickova (Tony Kart/Vortex) was missing from the race. Kean Nakamura-Berta (KR/Iame) logically led at the start ahead of Fionn MacLaughlin (KR/Iame) and Tomass Stolcermanis (Energy/TM), followed by Jan Przyrowski (Tony Kart/Vortex) in 4th place and Gustaw Wisniewski (Exprit/TM) in 5th. David Walther (Tony Kart/Vortex), who had an advantage due to the state of his tyres after his absence on Friday afternoon, quickly climbed back into the top 10. Jules Caranta (Energy/TM) was 11th and Arthur Poulain (Tony Kart/Vortex) 12th. Maxens Verbrugge (Parolin/TM) had to retire on the fourth lap after a contact. Joe Turney (KR/Iame) was 6th with a gain of three places, just in front of Walther who was making a comeback. A few drops of rain started to fall. All the leading drivers still managed to improve their times despite the raindrops. Nakamura-Berta was leading with more than 6 tenths on MacLaughlin, Stolcermanis and Przyrowski. Walther passed Turney for 6th position. Stolcermanis and MacLaughlin were fighting for 2nd place. Nakamura-Berta won with a nearly 2″ advantage on Stolcermanis who finally overtook MacLaughlin. Przyrowski finished 4th and Wisniewski 5th. Caranta was 13th and Poulain 20th.
