KZ2 Super Heats: Nakamura-Berta and Vasile win in Zuera

On Sunday morning, the Super Heats of the first round of the FIA Karting European Championship – KZ2 took place in cool, slightly cloudy weather at the Zuera track. The wind was not yet too strong.

Super Heat A: Nakamura-Berta the solid winner
Freddie Slater (Birel ART/TM) held the lead at the start of the race, Alex Powell (KR/Iame) was 4th while Daniel Macia (KR/Iame) and Kean Nakamura-Berta (KR/Iame) were ahead of him. Macia quickly took the lead while Nakamura-Berta gained ground and took the lead on the fourth of the 12 laps. Jorge Pescador (Kali/TM) came back to 4th ahead of Matteo Spirgel (Sodi/TM). Slater had dropped back to 7th, but still held the lead in the provisional standings. After the halfway point, Powell, although very fast, was overtaken by Pescador for 3rd position. Nakamura-Berta had taken the lead more than 3″ in front of a group in full battle. Macia defended his 2nd position with a lot of effort. He crossed the line 5,6” after Nakamura, Pescador was not happy to stay 3rd, Spirgel secured 4th position ahead of Powell. Slater finished 7th ahead of Thomas Imbourg (Sodi/TM) who moved up five places.

Super Heat B: First Romanian victory for Vasile
Jean Nomblot (Sodi/TM) got off to a perfect start and passed Daniel Vasile (Birel ART/TM), Cristian Bertuca (Birel ART/TM) 3rd, Tomass Stolcermanis (Energy/TM) 4th and Alessio Piccini (Birel ART/TM) 5th. Vasile regained the lead on the second lap, followed by Bertuca on the next lap. Genis Civico (Parolin/TM) was back in the top five ahead of Piccini with a gain of five places. Gabin Leuillet (Birel ART/TM), in 11th place, had made up the places lost at the start by the fifth lap. In 3rd place, Stolcermanis was struggling with Bertuca’s resistance. He found the opening for 2nd position on lap 8 and took Civico in his wake. Nomblot crashed out after contact with Brandon Nilsson (CRG/TM). Vasile took the lead, set the fastest time and won the race 3,8” ahead of Stolcermanis. Civico took 3rd place ahead of Bertuca and Paavo Tonteri (CRG/TM).
