Maragliano and Piccini shine in the KZ2 Prefinals in Lonato

The clouds were gathering over Lonato at the time of the KZ2 Prefinals for the first round of the WSK Super Master Series.

Prefinal A
Cristian Bertuca (Birel ART/TM) took the lead followed by Pedro Hiltbrand (Birel ART/TM) and Jérémy Iglesias (CRG/TM). Alex Maragliano (Maranello/TM) and David Trefilov (Maranello/TM) followed in the top five. Behind Matteo Zanchi (CRG/TM) in 6th, Viktor Gustafsson (CRG/TM) took the lead over Tom Leuillet (Tony Kart/Vortex). Maragliano was back in 3rd before attacking Hiltbrand for P2. Arthur Carbonnel (CRG/TM) was 12th. At the halfway point, leader Bertuca still had a 7-tenths advantage, but Maragliano was very fast. Gustafsson was 5th ahead of Trefilov and behind his team-mate Iglesias. Leuillet came back to 7th ahead of Zanchi. Maragliano attacked Bertuca and took the lead on the 10th lap. Gustafsson was able to overtake Bertuca on lap 13 for 2nd place. Maragliano won 1,4” ahead of Gustafsson (+5 places each) and Trefilov was 3rd at 1,5”. Bertuca finished 4th ahead of his team-mate Hiltbrand. Iglesias was 6th and Leuillet 7th.

Prefinal B
Giuseppe Palomba (Birel ART/TM) took the lead over Emilien Denner (Sodi/TM) at lights out. Daniel Vasile (Birel ART/TM) was 3rd followed by Alessio Piccini (Birel ART/TM) and Freddie Slater (Birel ART/TM). Andrea Dalé (CRG/TM) then took P4 ahead of Piccini and Francesco Celenta (Parolin/TM), with Slater dropping down to 10th. Yevan David (Sodi/TM) showed great speed in P6 at mid-race. Palomba, Denner and Vasile were separated by 2 tenths each in the top three. Vasile then attacked Denner for 2nd place. Piccini stayed in the race in 4th place and took the lead over Denner. Vasile took the lead ahead of Piccini and Palomba while Dalé moved up to 4th and then 3rd passing Palomba. Piccini took the lead from his team-mate Vasile with three laps to go. The Romanian was doing his best to control the threat from Dalé. Piccini took the win ahead of Vasile, Dalé 3rd, Denner 4th and Celenta 5th. Palomba finished 9th, Slater 15th.
