OK-Junior Prefinals: Wherrell and Bondarev win under the lights

The temperature dropped rapidly as the day wore on, but the Lonato track remained dry and well-lit for the OK-Junior Prefinals of the WSK Champions Cup.

Prefinal A
Iacopo Martinese (KR/Iame) was missing from his 2nd position. Lewis Wherrell (Exprit/TM), who was unbeaten in the heats, took the lead once again ahead of Lev Krutogolov (Tony Kart/Iame) and Stepan Antonov (KR/Iame). Mees Houben (Tony Kart/Vortex) and You De Lu (KR/TM) followed in the top five. Wherell gradually increased his lead while Antonov prepared his attack on Krutogolov on lap 6. Guy Albag (Exprit/TM) and David Cosma Cristofor (KR/Iame) were fighting for 5th place. Wherell had already distanced himself from his pursuers at the half of the race. He took another victory, 4” ahead of Antonov. Krutogolov kept his 3rd place just ahead of Houben. Cosma Cristofor finished 5th ahead of Albag. Jindrich Pesl (IPK/TM) did not have a good race in 16th position.

Prefinal B
Dries van Langendonck (Energy/TM) took the lead on the first lap, Taym Saleh (KR/Iame) ahead of Filippo Sala (Sodi/TM) and Niklas Schaufler (KR/Iame). Saleh took the lead on the second lap. Schaufler then moved up to 2nd followed by Oleksandr Bondarev (KR/Iame). Bondarev attacked Schaufler to take the lead on lap 6 of the 17-lap race, while Sebastian Lehtimaki (Tony Kart/Vortex) moved into the top five behind Sala. Bondarev was on his way to victory, two tenths ahead of Saleh who then took 4 penalty places. Sala was back in 2nd, Lehtimaki 3rd ahead of Ethan Lennon (Exprit/TM) who set several very fast laps. Louis Cochet (Sodi/TM) finished 16th.
