Academy Final: superb victory for Dorison

The temperature was over 25° in Genk on Sunday afternoon for the Final of the FIA Karting Academy Trophy. The front row promised an intense start with Arthur Dorison (FRA) on pole alongside Guillaume Bouzar (LUX). But the rest of the field was even more promising with very combative drivers like William Go (PHL), Jindrich Pesl (CZE) or Nikolas Roos (ZAF). 19 laps were scheduled.

It was a perfect start for Dorison in front of Go and Bouzar. Dinu Stroescu (ROU) stopped on the second lap and Chiara Bättig (CHE) gave up shortly afterwards. Bouzar set the fastest time on the fourth lap in the wheels of Go while Dorison was leading by 3 tenths. Roos was 4th ahead of Luca Houghton (BHR) and Aleksandar Bogunovic (SVN), with Pesl 7th and Caleb Gafrarar (USA) 8th. Henry Joslyn (GBR) had made a 16-place climb to 12th followed by Thibaut Ramaekers (BEL). The duel between Dorison and Go was becoming clearer as the halfway mark approached. Pesl made a bouncing pass in the grass that sent him back to 8th position. Dorison managed to distance himself from Go, who was less consistent and now under pressure from Bouzar. Houghton had moved up to 4th ahead of Roos, closely followed by Joel Pohjola (FIN).
Ramaekers returned to the top 10 with a warning flag and Pohjola moved up to 4th with two laps to go. Not so fast in the second sector, Dorison managed to keep the gap around 5 tenths and took the victory after a very solid performance against Go and Bouzar. Houghton finissait 4e et Bogunovic 5e.
