Trefilov takes the FIA Karting KZ2 pole position in Genk ahead of Tom Leuillet

The 88 drivers of the FIA European Karting KZ2 Championship opened the hostilities on Friday afternoon in Genk. Their Qualifying sessions were divided into four groups and took advantage of the sunny weather and a temperature of 20°. With the LeCont tyres almost the entire six minutes were used. The times became significant from the third or fourth lap.

Kajak: 51”018
In the first session, Arthur Carbonnel (Sodi/TM) was the fastest on the third lap. Markus Kajak (Tony Kart/TM) took over on lap 4 ahead of Giuseppe Palomba (Birel ART/TM). Kajak set the reference time of 51”018 on his fifth lap, 97 thousandths ahead of David Liwinski (Sodi/TM), then Thomas Imbourg (Sodi/TM) was 3rd by 0.120” ahead of Thomas Cypers (Mach 1/Iame) and Carbonnel.

Trefilov: 50”812
In Session 2, Danilo Albanese (KR/Iame) confirmed his speed on the third lap and came close to the fastest provisional time on the fourth lap, ahead of Robert Kindervater (Birel ART/TM) and Matteo Spirgel (Sodi/TM). David Trefilov (Maranello/TM) then improved to 50”812 on his sixth lap, more than 2 tenths ahead of Dominik Reuters (Birel ART/TM) and Arthur Lehouck (Sodi/TM). But Kindervater and Albanese were in 3rd and 4th place on their seventh lap while Jean Nomblot (Sodi/TM) was 6th ahead of Marco Tormen (Parolin/TM). Spirgel finished 9th.

Vasile: 51”081
Daniel Vasile (DR/Modena) took the lead in the third session from his third lap. Genis Civico (Birel ART/TM) and Kris Haanen (KR/TM) followed him at a distance on the next lap. Vasile improved again on his fifth lap, but Haanen was just ahead of him with 51’130. The last word went to Vasile with a time of 51”118 on his sixth lap. Haanen followed him by 49 thousandths, then Civico 3rd by a tenth, Jorge Pescador (CRG/TM) was 4th and Jean Luyet (Tony Kart/Vortex) 5th. Celian Gallasin (Sodi/TM) finished 7th and Jérémy Potain (Birel ART/TM) 20th. For his debut, Cristian Bertuca (Birel ART/TM) had to retire after only two laps.

Leuillet: 50”826
In the fourth session, Florian Quibel (Birel ART/TM) made his mark at the top of the ranking on the second lap. Tom Leuillet (Birel ART/TM) replaced him on the third lap with a significant gap. The Frenchman continued with a 50’980, close to the pole on his fourth lap. Arvid Lindblad (KR/TM) and Alessio Piccini (Birel ART/TM) returned to the top three on the following lap while Leuillet continued to improve and finished on 50’826 on his sixth lap (14 thousandths off the best time). Lindblad was 2nd by 0.187”, Tim Tröger (Maranello/TM) was 3rd by 2 tenths ahead of Piccini and Samuel Luyet (Tony Kart/Vortex). Paul Loussier (Sodi/TM) finished 9th, Corentin Rousseau (Sodi/TM) 10th, Antoine Barbaroux (Sodi/TM) 18th and Quibel 20th.
