OK: Final victory for Turney

With a temperature of 22° Celsius and sunny skies, the OK Final competitors of the European Championship in Zuera took to the track to conclude the FIA Karting meeting. Joe Turney (Tony Kart/Vortex) and Tuukka Taponen (Tony Kart/Vortex) started on the front row ahead of young guns Enzo Deligny (Parolin/TM) and Kean Nakamura-Berta (KR/Iame).

A rare phenomenon in OK, two false starts preceded the real start of the race. Taponen seemed to have a good start, but he was 5th on the first pass while Turney and Deligny had already increased the gap to Gabriel Gomez (CRG/Iame) and Kean Nakamura-Berta (KR/Iame). Deligny took the lead on the second lap. Ean Eyckmans (Tony Kart/Vortex) and Alex Powell (KR/Iame) were fighting for 5th position. Turney took over 1st place while Nakamura closed in on 3rd place. Arvid Lindblad (KR/Iame) had moved up to 7th ahead of Taponen and was already setting the fastest lap. Powell took 5th place at the expense of Eyckmans. Evan Giltaire (KR/Iame) was 9th and Arthur Rogeon 14th.

In mid-race, Turney accelerated and pushed his advantage to one second over Deligny, who was followed by Nakamura by less than 3 tenths. The latter was attacked by Gomez on lap 10. But Powell managed to move up to 3rd position ahead of Nakamura and Lindblad. Deligny had a little more margin after these attacks, 8 tenths to be precise. Lindblad was on the virtual podium when he attacked Powell on the 14th lap. Deligny barely had time to analyse the threat when Lindblad passed him for 2nd place. Lindblad quickly caught up with the leader, but Turney still won by a narrow margin of 3 tenths. A dislodged spoiler sent Lindblad back to 9th and Deligny, who had resisted the pressure of Powell, found himself 2nd by 41 thousandths on the line. Nakamura finished 4th, Gomez 5th, Giltaire 8th and Rogeon 13th.
