Khavalkin and Tye win the first OK-Junior Super Heats

Dmitry Matveev (Tony Kart/Vortex) and Oleksander Bondarev (LN/Vortex) shared the front row of the OK-Junior European Championship Super Heat A on Sunday morning. The sky was relatively clear and the temperature was 15° with a strong wind. Jan Przyrowski (Tony Kart/Vortex) and Anatholy Khavaklin (Parolin/TM) got in behind Matveev on the first lap. Przyrowski hung on to Alfie Slater (LN/Vortex) who had a good start. Khavalkin followed Matveev and passed him on lap five. Bondarev was getting closer, Kirill Kutskov (Birel ART/TM) was back in 4th ahead of Andres Cardenas (Energy/TM). We were heading for a three-way battle for the win. Matveev repelled an attack from Bondarev, which increased the gap. Khavalkin won against Matveev and then Bondarev who set the fastest lap. Kutskov and Cardenas finished 4th and 5th ahead of Gerasim Skulanov (+9 pl). Tiziano Monza (KR/Iame) came back to 8th place with a 21-place improvement, before ending up 27th because of a heavy penalty. Thomas Quincé (Tony Kart/TM) was disqualified.

Nathan Tye (Sodi/TM) and René Lammers (Parolin/TM) were in the lead in Super Heat B with Jules Caranta (Energy/TM) in 3rd place. Lammers went wide trying to stay in 2nd and ended up in 4th. Tye led ahead of Caranta and Thomas Strauven (LN/Vortex) then Taym Saleh (KR/Iame) 5th. Adam Hideg (KR/Iame) and Andy Consani (Sodi/TM) moved up to 5th and 6th. Lammers struggled to get into the top three. The positions stabilised at mid-race with a gap of 3 tenths between the top four. Lammers attacked Strauven for 3rd place with two laps to go. Tye won 4 tenths ahead of Caranta, with Lammers 3rd and Strauven 4th ahead of Martin Molnar (Energy/TM). Guillaume Bouzar (Tony Kart/Vortex), who set the fastest lap and moved up six places, took 6th place.
