Another OK victory for Severiukhin in Portimão

The finalists of the first round of the European OK Championship had time to prepare in the windy weather of Portimão, starting with Artem Severiukhin (Tony Kart/Vortex) and Joe Turney (Tony Kart/Vortex) on the first row and Evan Giltaire (KR/Iame) and Ean Eyckmans (Tony Kart/Vortex) on the second. Enzo Deligny (Parolin/TM) was not far behind in 9th position just behind Kean Nakamura-Berta (KR/Iame).

Turney kept in contact at the start of the race, but a multi-kart incident disturbed the hierarchy. Alex Powell (KR/Iame), Joel Bergstrom (Exprit/TM), Matheus Morgatto (KR/Iame) and Luka Sammalisto (KR/Iame) were among the victims. Severiukhin led ahead of Giltaire, Nakmura, Tomass Stolcermanis (Energy/TM) and Oscar Pedersen (Tony Kart/Vortex) ahead of Turney in 6th. Severiukhin quickly distanced himself from his pursuers with nearly a second’s lead after five laps. Giltaire maintained a good rhythm behind the leader while Stolcermanis came back to 3rd and Turney 5th at the approach of the halfway point. Deligny was back in 7th place, far away from Pedersen. Stolcermanis attacked Giltaire on lap 11 for 2nd place. Turney then went on the attack to take 3rd position followed by Pedersen and Nakamura. Taking advantage of his speed in sector 2, Stolcermanis closed slightly on Severiukhin. There were only a few laps left for a competitive finish to develop. But the gap between the two leaders was reduced to 0,269” at the beginning of the last lap. Severiukhin nevertheless won by 0,234” against the brave Stolcermanis who was later penalised for an unhooked spoiler and classified 7th. Turney took 2nd place and Pedersen was 3rd. Nakamura took 4th, then the two Frenchmen followed with Giltaire 5th and Deligny 6th. Freddie Slater (LN/Vortex) was 8th, Eyckmans finished 9th and Juho Valtanen (Tony Kart/Vortex) 10th.
