Dzitiev wins OK-Junior Final

The clouds were beginning to appear in the sky of Portimao for the OK-Junior Final of the Champions of the Future Round 1, but the temperature remained at 17°. Oleksandr Bondarev (LN/Vortex) and Nathan Tye (Sodi/TM) shared the front row, followed by Kirill Dzitiev (Tony Kart/Vortex) and Lucas Fluxa Cross (KR/Iame).

Tye was forced to pull away during a defensive/offensive manoeuvre by Bondarev. Dzitiev took the lead, Bondarev was 2nd and Tye 9th. Guillaume Bouzar (Tony Kart/Vortex) did not finish the first lap. Maciej Gladysz (LN/Vortex) and Tiziano Monza (KR/Iame) crashed after contact. Andres Cardenas (Energy/TM) was back in 3rd and Tye was back on the attack for 4th place. Andy Consani (Sodi/TM) was 14th, Arthur Dorison (Tony Kart/Vortex) had recovered 15 places to 21st. Jimmy Helias (Tony Kart/Vortex) was 26th and Maxens Verbrugge (Exprit/TM) was isolated in 33rd position after the incident on lap 1. Dzitiev had to defend his lead and the battle was now for 2nd position between Bondarev, Tye and Cardenas. In the chasing group, Anatoly Khavalkin (Parolin/TM) was 7th with a gain of eight places. Tye attacked Bondarev for 2nd place shortly after the halfway point. Dmitry Matveev’s (Tony Kart/Vortex) 5th place was threatened by Khavalkin. Both drivers passed Cardenas, but lost ground shortly afterwards as they clashed. Tye continued to give his all to close in on the leader. Dzitiev nevertheless won by 1” ahead of the British driver from Sodikart. Bondarev finally finished 3rd ahead of Cardenas and Matveev. Thomas Strauven (LN/Vortex) took 6th place ahead of Khavalkin. Consany finished 14th, Dorison 19th (+17 pl), Helias 23th and Verbrugge 28th.
