Champions of the Future: Bondarev on Junior pole at Portimão

The weather at Portimao had improved after the overnight rain. The asphalt had almost dried out with the sun sometimes obscured by clouds and a temperature of 15 degrees. In short, it was time for the OK-Junior Qualifying for the Champions of the Future on Friday afternoon, with 64 drivers on Vega tyres. The karts generally did not take to the track until the third minute of the six-minute session, with only two laps being run.

In Group 1, Oleksandr Bondarev (LN/Vortex) was the fastest on his first run and finished in 57’502 on his second lap. Andy Consani (Sodi/TM) followed in 2nd place, two tenths ahead of Maciej Gladysz (LN/Vortex), while Adam Hideg (KR/Iame) was 4th ahead of Andres Cardenas (Energy/TM) and Louis Leveau (Sodi/TM) 6th. Jules Caranta (Energy/TM) finished 16th.

Dmitry Matveev (Tony Kart/Vortex), the fastest on the first lap and improved on the second. Gerasim Skulanov (Birel ART/TM) ultimately set the fastest time of the second group in 57’621, 7 thousandths ahead of Kirill Dzitiev (Tony Kart/Vortex). Guillaume Bouzar (Tony Kart/Vortex) was 3rd, a tenth behind Nathan Tye (Sodi/TM) and Miguel Costa (KR/Iame). Jimmy Helias (Tony Kart/Vortex) finished 13th, Thomas Quincé (Tony Kart/TM) 15th and Arthur Dorison (Tony Kart/Vortex) 17th.

Anatoly Kavalkin (Parolin/TM) was in the lead on the first lap, but Thomas Strauven (LN/Vortex) improved to 57’596, ahead of René Lammers (Parolin/TM) and Lucas Fluxa Cross (KR/Iame) at less than 3 hundredths. Tiziano Monza (KR/Iame) finished 4th and Kian Gardin (Tony Kart/Vortex) 5th. Maxens Verbrugge (Exprit/TM) was 6th.
