Ippolito wins the KZ Final, Longhi wins the Championship

To close the very hot weekend in Adria, the final of the FIA Karting European Championship – KZ was to reveal the 2021 champion among many contenders after its 24 laps.

Paolo Ippolito (CRG/TM) took the lead over Matteo Vigano (Birel ART/TM) as soon as the lights went out, ahead of Pedro Hiltbrand (Birel ART/TM) and Viktor Gustafsson (Birel ART/TM). Stan Pex (KR/TM) was 5th, followed by Adrien Renaudin (Sodi/TM) and Jérémy Iglesias (CRG/TM). Emilien Denner (Intrepid/TM) was in 8th place, while Riccardo Longhi (Birel ART/TM) was quickly back in 9th place with Marijn Kremers (Birel ART/TM) in his wake. Andrea Kimi Antonelli (KR/Iame) did not start well and was 15th. Vigano continued to lose ground. The race took on its rhythm after a few intense laps.

In the battle for the title, Denner and Longhi were fighting for 7th and 8th positions, with an advantage of two points for the Frenchman at this stage. Ippolito was steadily increasing his lead over Hiltbrand who was now being chased by Stan Pex. On lap 18, Denner gave up three places to Longhi and gave up shortly afterwards, putting an end to his title hopes. Stan Pex went into a spin chasing Hiltbrand and had to leave it at that. Ippolito took a great victory for the CRG Racing Team 2.3″ ahead of Hiltbrand and Gustafsson. Renaudin finished 4th and Iglesias 5th. Longhi’s 6th position allowed him to win the Championship after a very complicated weekend.
