Antonelli asserts his ambitions with a fine Final victory

The meeting in Aunay-les-Bois ended under the sun with the Final of the FIA Karting European Championship – OK with Andrea Kimi Antonelli (KR/Iame) on pole position next to Artem Severiukhin (Tony Kart/Vortex), followed by Rafael Camara (KR/Iame) and Yannick De Brabander (Praga/Iame) on the second row, while Evan Giltaire (KR/Iame) started 5th.

The start was given after three formation laps. Antonelli was in the lead ahead of Camara, Severuikhin and Giltaire. Juho Valatnen (KR/TM) went off and retired. Ugo Ugochukwu (KR/Iame) was already back in 5th ahead of Martinius Stenshorne (Birel ART/TM). Alfio Spina (Parolin/TM) and Hugo Besson (KR/Iame) also retired, with Ariel Elkin (KR/Iame) the last driver on track. Antonelli was struggling to hold off Camara while Giltaire was back in 3rd. Ugochukwu lost time when he went wide and Arvid Lindblad (KR/Iame) passed him for 7th. Nikola Tsolov (KR/Iame) was trapped and hit the pads before giving up. Joe Turney (Tony Kart/Vortex) also crashed and was 28th.

Antonelli had set an intense pace at the halfway point and his lead was over 2″. Lindblad moved into the top five behind Severiukhin and soon moved up to 4th. The British driver continued his climb and passed Giltaire to enter the top three, 2,2” behind Camara. Antonelli was still extending his lead, Lindblad was quickly closing in on Camara with the fastest lap of the race. On the penultimate lap, he joined him, but could not pass. Antonelli took a magnificent victory 4,4” ahead of the Camara / Lindblad duo. Severiukhin finished 4th, De Brabander 5th, Stenshorme 6th, Ugochukwu 7th, Giltaire 8th, Brando Badoer (KR/Iame) 9th and Luigi Coluccio (Kosmic/Vortex) 10th. Marlon Hernandez (KR/Iame) took 17th place, while 10 drivers did not finish.
