Slater takes a well-deserved victory in the Junior Final

The weather situation was uncertain on the starting grid of the FIA Karting European Junior Championship Final. It looked as if rain would soon fall on the Genk track, with a few drops already appearing. However, the 36 finalists were on MG Tires slick tyres.

Ean Eyckmans (Kosmic/Vortex) made a good start, followed by Akshay Bohra (KR/Iame). Dion Gowda (Kosmic/Vortex) was 3rd ahead of Freddie Slater (Kosmic/Vortex). On the second lap Bohra took the lead ahead of Slater, Eyckmans and Gowda. Enzo Deligny (Parolin/TM) had a good start with a lightning recovery to 9th position on lap 3. The action was constant at all levels. Slater took 1st place on lap 4. Alex Powell (KR/Iame) was back in 5th ahead of Maxim Rehm (Kosmic/Vortex) and Rashid Al Dhaheri (Parolin/TM). Harley Keeble (Tony Kart/Vortex) then moved up to 6th.

At the halfway point, the threat of rain seemed to be receding. Slater was more than a second ahead of Bohra, followed by Eyckmans. Powell was in 4th place ahead of Keeble and Al Dhaheri in 6th. Deligny was struggling in 9th position, while Maxens Verbrugge (Kosmic/Vortex) had lost ground in 21st. Slater continued to pull away as the battle for 2nd position was brewing with Eyckmans closing in on Bohra and Powell in ambush. Slater eased the pressure in the closing laps to take the win by 2.4″. Bohra put up a good fight and finished 2nd ahead of Eyckmans. Powell took 4th place after an improvement of five positions. Keeble was 5th, Al Dhaheri 6th, Coskun Irfan (KR/Iame) 7th, Luka Sammalisto (KR/Iame) 8th, Deligny 9th and Rehm 10th.

Augustin Bernier (KR/Iame) had regained 11 places in 24th position, Arthur Poulain (Kosmic/Vortex) finished 26th, while Verbrugge and Jules Caranta (KR/Iame) had to give up.
