The DD2 Masters category opened the Prefinals of the Rotax Max Challenge International Trophy at the Le Mans circuit on Saturday morning, August 24th. The sky was blue and very slightly covered with a rising temperature, close to 20°.
Leading the way, Romain Mange (FRA – Tony Kart) was followed by Scott Howard (AUS – Sodi), with Carl Cleirbaut (BEL – Tony Kart), Slawomir Muranski (POL – Tony Kart) and Primoz Matelic (SVN – Praga) in ambush. Muranski quickly took the lead ahead of Cleirbaut, Mange and Howard, while the pack remained very close. Muranski escaped, Mange followed, while Howard was left behind. Mange recovered control at half-distance, and the duel with Muranski enlivened the race, 8 tenths ahead of Howard and the chasing pack. The internal fights in the pack gave the top two a cushion, Mange seeming to inevitably take the wide line at cornerss. Meanwhile, Tamsin Germain (GBR – Kosmic) scrambled up from 8th position and threatened Howard’s 3rd place. Mange won as expected with a 5 tenths lead over Muranski, Howard managed to keep 3rd place 4” away, Germain took 4th place that was momentarily challenged by Nikolaos Ioannou (RCMP – Exprit).
