Big lead for De Haan on the finish line of the Academy Final

The finalists of the Academy Trophy started in a heat which is always high at Sarno, with Robert De Haan (NLD), the leader of the provisional classification, under the influence of a disqualification which he appealed, and Kajus Siksnelis (LTU) on the front row ahead of Oleksandr Partyshev (UKR) and Jacob Douglas (NZL).

A compact pack entered the first hairpin: Siksnelis attacked de Haan who replied immediately, while Christian Ho (SGP) was in 3rd position in front of Partyshev and Gael Julien (IND). Four drivers did not complete the first lap. De Haan escaped in the lead while the battle was raging in the chasing trio.  Paolo Ferrari (ITA) was back at the front in 4th position ahead of Joshua Coertze (ZAF) and Bartolomej Piekutowski (POL). In 7th position, Justin Arseneau (CAN) was fastest and Maxime Furon-Castelain (LUX) was in around 16th place. After starting well, Mattéo Spirgel (FRA) was down in 23rd position.

As De Haan headed for a big win on the track with a 5.8” lead, Partyshev had overtaken Siksnelis for 2nd place. Further behind, Ferrari was ahead of Arseneau in 4th position. Alexandr Gubenko (RUS) completed a 14-place recovery to reach 6th place with the fastest lap in the race.
