Motivated by his superb heats in 1st position in the intermediate, Evan Giltaire did not falter in the Prefinal and led almost from start to finish. With the Dutchman Dani Van Ruiten, they managed to escape the chasing pack.

Van Ruiten tried his luck a few metres from the finish and got the better under braking, but Giltaire very skillfully crossed his rival, keeping his lead and crossing the finish line as the winner.

After an excellent start that enabled him to move from 5th to 2nd place, Augustin Bernier quickly gave in to Van Ruiten, before coming under pressure from his direct pursuers. He fell to 7th, before coming back to 5th behind Germany’s Farin Megger and Russia’s Iakov Sokolov, both solid podium contenders from the start of the event.

The Latvian Tomass Stolcermanis was also part of this chasing pack, but lost his 3rd place after a corridor exit penalty. With his 10 second penalty, he will start only 19th in the Final.

Leo Poncel again had a difficult race, falling from 17th to 21st just behind his compatriot Théophile Nael, who ended up keeping his starting place despite an incredible start when the lights went out (+7 places).
