European Essay: last Junior heats

The weather was still good on Sunday morning at Essay for the last Qualifying Heats of the FIA ??Karting – European Junior Championship. The races brought noticeable changes because of the use of their set of new tyres by some drivers.

 

On the 11th lap, Josep Maria Marti ‘Sobrepera (Tony Kart / Vortex) won the EF race ahead of Paul Aron (FA Kart / Vortex), while Dino Beganovic (Tony Kart / Vortex) also regained 10 places, finishing 3rd ahead of Conrad Laursen (FA Kart / Vortex) and Zak O’Sullivan (FA Kart / Vortex). Marcus Amand (KR / Parilla) stayed in 6th place, Sami Meguetounif (Formula K / Vortex) was 8th ahead of Evann Mallet (Kosmic / Parilla), who started well but was jostled afterwards. Elliott Vayron (Tony Kart / Vortex) was 10th.

 

Kai Askey (FA Kart / Vortex) strongly dominated the C-D heat with a 4.5” lead over teammate Thomas Ten Brinke (FA Kart / Vortex) who was threatened by Isack Hadjar (Exprit / TM). Kirill Smal (Tony Kart / Vortex) took 4th place, Taylor Barnard (KR / Parilla) 5th, but Gabriel Bortoleto (CRG / TM) lost six places in 8th place. On new tyres, Tom Uzan (Kosmic / Parilla) gained 10 places in 12th position. Six drivers, including Sebastian Montoya (Tony Kart / Vortex), did not finish.

 

The last heat, A-B, brought its share of surprises. Long leader, Gabriele Mini ‘(Parolin / Parilla) finished 6th after a heated struggle for the finish giving the victory to Alex Dunne (Exprit / TM) and allowing Victor Bernier (Kosmic / Parilla) to return luckily in 2nd place in front of poleman Nikita Bedrin (Tony Kart / Vortex). Craig Tanic (Birel ART / TM) was 7th, Alfio Spina (CRG / TM) was 14th and Enzo Trulli (CRG / TM) 21st.

 

Kartcom’s unofficial intermediate ranking indicates that Bedrin remains ahead of Askey, Bernier is 3rd, Mini ‘4th, Gravlund 5th and Bortoleto 6th ahead of Aron and O’Sullivan.
