At Ampfing, Timed Qualifying for Round 3 of the European OK-Junior Championship started on Friday afternoon in warm weather. As usual, the drivers waited for the last four minutes of their session to take to the track. Paul Aron (FA Kart / Vortex), Luca Griggs (Exprit / Vortex), Zak O’Sullivan (FA Kart / Vortex), Kai Askey (FA Kart / Vortex), Laurens Van Hoepen (Tony Kart / Vortex), Taylor Barnard ( KR / Parilla) and Hadrien David (Kosmic / Vortex) were among the fastest in Free Practice.

 

In Session 1, Paul Aron (FA Kart / Vortex) and Kai Askey (FA Kart / Vortex) quickly made it to the top of the standings ahead of Nikita Bedrin (Tony Kart / Vortex). Aron kept the fastest lap with 43”204, 0.184” faster than his teammate at RFM, Askey. Bedrin was 3rd by 0.277′ ahead of Sebastian Ogaard (Tony Kart / Vortex), Hadrien David (Kosmic / Vortex) and Loris Cabirou (Energy / TM) in 6th. While Isack Hadjar (Exprit / TM) was in the top 10 and Marcus Amand (KR / Parilla) finished 15th, Sami Meguetounif (Formula K / TM) was only 24th.

 

Gabriel Bortoleto (CRG / TM) and Luca Griggs (Exprit / Vortex) were the first to go into action in the second session. Zak O’Sullivan (FA Kart / Vortex) then took the lead over Gabriele Mini’ (Parolin / Parilla). O’Sullivan was fastest with 43”435, the provisional 3rd position, Griggs came back to within 5 hundredths, ahead of Mini’ and Bortoleto, the top four grouped in 82 thousandths. Conrad Laursen (FA Kart / Vortex) finished 5th by 0.187″. Arias Deukmedjian (FA Kart / TM) finished in 8th place, Gaia Eichenberger (Sodi / TM) finished 11th, Tom Uzan (Kosmic / Parilla) 14th and Evann Mallet (Kosmic / Parilla) remained in 20th position.

 

Daniel Briz Llull (FA Kart / Parilla) and Ben Dörr (KR / Parilla) performed very well in the third session against Rafael Camara (Kosmic / Vortex) and Kirill Smal (Tony Kart / Vortex). Dörr was finally credited with the fastest lap, 43”577, while Dino Beganovic (Tony Kart / Vortex) finished in 2nd position by 23 thousandths ahead of his teammate Smal by 36 thousandths, then Briz in 4th. Victor Bernier (Kosmic / Parilla) finished in 5th position by 60 thousandths from the leader. Taylor Barnard (KR / Parilla) was 8th, Thomas Ten Brinke (FA Kart / Vortex) 14th and Macéo Capietto (KR / Parilla) 24th.

 

Aron was a strong poleman 0.184” in front of 2nd-placed Askey, O’Sullivan in 3rd took his Sarno penalty and was 13th. Mini’ was 5th, Bortoleto 7th, David 8th and Cabirou 9th. Bernier was 18th and Hadjar 23rd. The young CPB Sport driver Gaia Eichenberger brought his Sodi to a great 30th position out of 81 starters, ahead of many more experienced drivers.
