Lucas Auer with Birel ART in the WSK collective tests

Austrian driver Lucas Auer, an official Mercedes driver in DTM and nephew of Gerhard Berger, chose the Birel ART Racing Team to perfect his fitness for the car season. A kart driver between 2008 and 2010, he was German Junior vice-champion in 2009 before moving into single-seaters. He was noticed in F3 with his 2nd place in the 2012 ATS Cup, then in 4th place in the European Championship in 2013 and 2014, while he raced parallel in LMP1 in the FIA ??World Endurance Championship. Ranked 12th in his first DTM season in 2016, he progressed to 6th place in 2017 within the Mercedes-Benz ART Grand Prix team.

Lucas Auer took part in the WSK Promotion collective test at the Adria circuit on 20th and 21st January, 2018. “It was a great experience!” said the Austrian. “Birel ART did everything right and I was delighted to get behind the wheel of a kart in such a prestigious team. Karting really is a fantastic discipline with incredible intensity. It is a very effective way for a car driver to train because all areas are covered in a short time. I quickly found my marks and eventually the performance was there. It made me want to continue in the race, an even stronger exercise, so that’s what I will do at the WSK Champions Cup and the first round of the WSK Super Master Series at Adria, as well as at the Winter Cup in Lonato, again with Birel ART. I think I’ll be ready to take the wheel of my Mercedes with the aim of winning the title!”
