DD2 Masters Qualifying: Derek Wang featured

The wind has increased at Portimao, but the sun is still out for the DD2 Masters Qualifying for the 2017 Rotax Max Challenge Grand Finals. Derek Wang (USA), Antti Ollikainen (FIN) and Michael Stephen (ZAF) started well. in the first session . Wang had even the fastest time of 59’202, ahead of Tomokazu Kawase (JPN) and Tommy Helfinger (DEU) tied 19 thousandths behind. Ollikainen took 4th place ahead of Stephen while Charly Hipp (FRA) posted the 6th fastest time and Michael Dauphin (FRA) the 9th.

 

Troy Woolston (AUS), Scott Howard (AUS), Ryan Urban (NZL), Gabriel Zughella (ARG), Manuel Tenschert (AUT) and of course Christophe Adams (BEL) enlivened the start of the second session. Zughella was in the lead – 59.230 – ahead of Woolston, Jonathan Pieterse (ZAF) was 3rd, followed by Adams and Slawomir Muranki (HUN).

 

Wang maintained pole position ahead of Kawase and Helfinger, with Zughella only 4th and Woolston 5th ahead of Ollikainen. Hipp maintained a good 8th position, with Dauphin finishing 17th.
