De Conto, winner and champion

Jérémy Iglesias (Formula K / TM) proved a formidable opponent to Paolo De Conto (CRG / TM) in the Final of this third event of the European KZ Championship in Oviedo. The Frenchman attacked the Italian and took the lead at the start of the race. But De Conto was able to increase the pace to regain control, despite another attempt by Iglesias. Marijn Kremers (Birel ART / TM) was in 3rd position while Anthony Abbasse (Sodi / TM) faced Patrik Hajek (Kosmic / Vortex) for 4th place.

During an overtaking attempt on Hajek Abbasse went flying at the entrance to the “S” and crashed hard. The race was under Slow procedure while Abbasse was evacuated, but his condition did not cause any particular concern. Fastest after the restart, Bas Lammers (Sodi / TM) went back to Kremers, then Iglesias to take 2nd place. Kremers took 3rd position while Iglesias fell to 6th. De Conto won despite Lammers’ growing threat in his wake, thus ensuring the points needed to win the European Champion title before the last Kristianstad event.
